What's Learning Skills Advice?

Navigating and Organising Your Study

Learning Skills Advisor will help you navigate digital platforms, learning portal and assist you in determining what kind or organising methods will work for you.

You will gain access to handy tools and resources that will help to:

  • Organise your time,
  • Find where to access support at your institution,
  • Gain full understanding of the task or question,
  • Plan your assessments, and
  • Streamline your work.
Academic Writing

Academic writing differs from casual writing and requires intentional use of academic words and writing structures. Learning Skills Advisor will help you adjust your writing style to fit your assessment criteria by providing useful resources and giving general feedback about your writing*.

You will receive support in the following areas:

  • Academic writing principles (basic and advanced),
  • Academic vocabulary,
  • Writing structure (Report, Essay or other formats), and
  • Meeting word count requirements.

Research & Referencing

Research is an integral part of most educational courses and could be new to some students. Learning Skills Advisor will assist you with the introduction to the world of research and help build your confidence using correct resources in your work.

You will access useful tools and guidance in the following:

  • Best research tools and databases,
  • Research skills and tips,
  • Source analysis,
  • Referencing and citation guidelines, and
  • Using your resources in a streamlined way.
Your Academic Success and Wellbeing

Your wellbeing has a direct impact on your learning, and we want you to succeed.

All CUC Mount Isa staff are trained in Mental Health First Aid and are available to have a chat about any challenges you might be facing as well as connect you to useful services such as:

  • Wellbeing support at your institution
  • Wellbeing services in the community
  • Useful tools to help you reduce stress:
    • have a cuppa and a chat,
    • explore wellbeing apps on our VR headset, or
    • take a break by colouring in some art at the centre
