Widening Participation Program
Building stronger pathways to tertiary education by listening to community aspirations and co-creating initiatives that empower Mount Isa’s under-represented groups.
Community Consultation | November – December 2026
Help us shape how Mount Isa’s community can empower under-represented people to realise their potential and pursue further education and training. Share your insights on local aspirations, barriers and opportunities to help develop practical initiatives and partnerships that support everyone’s educational journeys.

How to get involved
Share your story about what success looks like for Mount Isa Community in a way that feels comfortable to you. We ask you for a permission to report about what we hear during consultation, we record themes, never names. View consent form

Who is invited to Community Consultation
Everyone in the community. We want to know what barriers people face when it comes to choosing further training or education. We want to know about wins and successful programs. We want to know stories in our community.
What’s Next:
- Community Consultation results will be shared with those who opt-in to be updated by the end of January 2027.
- Community Co-Design will commence in February to bring together Community Partners, Schools, RTO’s and Universities to create initiatives that will support and inspire people in Mount Isa to pursue training or education.
- In April, we will roll out programs until end of 2027 to give a proper shot to our co-designed initiatives.
- In January 2028, CUC Mount Isa will report about community consultation, program delivery and evaluation of activities to Study Hubs in Place (SHIP) program.
- Can we make this last beyond the SHIP program funding round? Let’s yarn about that!
Widening Participation in Mount Isa has been made possible through funding from the Study Hubs in Place (SHIP) Partnership. SHIP is funded through the Regional Partnerships Project Pool Program; an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Education to support collaborative outreach projects that build upon the aspirations of students in regional and remote Australia, including those who may be experiencing cumulative disadvantage.
